January Activities at the Crocker Art Museum

Homeschool Day
Homeschool and family groups are invited to visit the museum for thematic, gallery adventures designed to intrigue children ages six and older. Registration is required. For pricing and registration, visit or call (916) 808-1182. 

Wednesdays, January 12, 19, 26, 11AM
Wee Wednesday
Bring your little one and yourself to this gallery-based play date for children ages 3 to 5.  Advance registration is required. Register at *FREE* with admission.

Monday, January 17, 10AM-3PM
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at the Crocker with inspirational tours based on King’s teachings at 10:30AM, 12:30PM, and 2:30PM; gospel music performances by Cosumnes River College Contemporary Gospel Choir at 11AM and 1PM; screenings of “Martin Luther King: Legacy of a Dream” at 12PM and 2PM; and at 10:30AM, 12PM, and 1:30PM, a reading of Faith Ringgold’s “My Dream of Martin Luther King” followed by a hands-on art making project. The museum is open until 5PM. *FREE* with admission.

The Crocker Art Museum is located at 216 O Street. Admission is *FREE* for members, $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 65 and older and college students, $5 for youth ages 6 to 17, and *FREE* for children younger than 6. For more information click HERE or call 916.808.7000.

Downtown Holiday Ice Rink

This post is long overdue. Has everyone already visited the Downtown Holiday Ice Rink? This might just be the motivation I’ve needed to get my family out there. Here are the deets:

WHERE: St. Rose of Lima Park, 7th and K Streets

WHEN: Sunday through Thursday 12-8PM, Friday and Saturday 10AM–10PM (click HERE for special holiday hours) until January 17, 2011.

COST: General admission is $8 for a 1-hour 45 min skating session and $2 for skate rentals. Skating session start at every even hour. Kids 4 and younger skate *FREE*. Tuesday nights from 4-8PM is buy-one-get-one-free admission. Thursdays you can dress in costume according to the theme and skate for *FREE*.

PARKING: Parking validation is available at the Westfield Downtown Plaza. Garage entrances are located at 5th & J streets and 4th & L streets. Limited street parking is also available in proximity to the rink.
