East Sac Mom on KCRA

February 9, 2011

Big news! East Sac Mom “June” will be on KCRA 3 tomorrow morning! I’ll be doing a segment featuring money and hassle-saving items for the NBC morning show. The best part? Besides getting to put a face to my (pen) name, East Sacramento Mom readers will have the chance to WIN the items featured! Keep reading for a sneak peek at the items I’ll be reviewing, and check back tomorrow for details on how to win.

Baby B’Air Infant Flight Vest ( – Safety harness for babies in airplanes, keeping them safely and securely anchored to their parents when lap-seated. Allows more parents to lap-seat, saving money, and makes lap-seating hassle-free. (I really could have used this when East Sac Toddler was an infant, sleeping ever so peacefully in the Snugli carrier he was NOT allowed to rest in during a flight in ’09.)

Ulubulu Baby Bib ( – Non-toxic 100% silicone baby bib that makes meal times a breeze. Easily wipe clean and reuse; no need to bring multiple bibs everywhere or have mess soak through bib. Hands down, the Best. Bib. Ever.

Sport-Brella ( – No need to find a covered area or bring hosts of umbrellas. Sport-Brella gives you instant protection from the elements. Its umbrella action open mechanism allows it to be set up in just three seconds and fits the whole family. Don’t hate me when our family sets this up in the grass at the River Cats games all summer…

BabyBriefcase ( – Briefcase-shaped file organizer specially designed to store all of a baby’s documents and information in a way that can be easily kept track of and accessed by parents whether at home, at the doctor on during travel. Whose baby doesn’t need a briefcase? I mean, we want to prepare our children for the “real world”, right?

Drink N’ Plate (  – Durable reusable, dishwasher-safe combo plate and drink holder that is perfect for all your outdoor and indoor food and drink needs. Held with one hand, the Drink N’ Plate is a combination of plate and drink holder, allowing the entire meal to be carried conveniently and easily. No more buying vast quantities of disposable plates and cups. Perfect for this East Sac Mom, who is constantly chasing a toddler while simultaneously trying to inhale a day’s worth of nutrition in between bath time and bed time.

Snack-Trap ( – Minimizes wasted snacks and clean up time with its patented, unique slitted lid that allow toddlers to see and retrieve food with ease themselves but automatically closes when the toddlers remove their hand. Before the Snack-Trap, you could collect an entire box of loose Cheerio’s from the back seat of my car. After, you might have enough to satisfy a cranky kid on the way home from Fairy Tale Town if you’re lucky.

Wish me luck tomorrow, and we’ll see you there!

Pre-K Pilot at Theodore Judah

August 23, 2010

The two most common questions we get at East Sac Mom are, “Can you recommend an East Sacramento preschool?” and “How can I get information about East Sacramento child care programs?” Theodore Judah Elementary is attempting to address that first frequently asked question with a new Pre-Kindergarden Pilot program.

Theodore Judah’s Pre-K pilot is open to all Sacramento preschoolers, even if they plan to attend kindergarten at another school. The program will start as soon as there are enough children enrolled, so don’t wait if you’re interested in getting your preschooler in. Since it’s summer, we haven’t been able to get much more information on the program (other than its existence) but with the school year drawing near, you may have more luck.

Theodore Judah is located at 3919 McKinley Boulevard and for more information click HERE or call 916.277.6364.

Wellness Wednesdays + Whooping-Cough Outbreak

July 6, 2010

Doesn’t this serene, peaceful view of McKinley Park make you want to go for a jog? Yeah, not me either. It is pretty though. And just because I don’t necessarily want to exercise, I definitely need to. Sometimes I just need a little motivation and the *FREE* wellness workouts offered on Wednesdays during the month of July are just what the doctor ordered.

Join Sacramento Wellness at the corner of 35th Street and McKinley Boulevard on Wednesdays in July from 6:30PM to 7:30PM to participate in a workout for all fitness levels. Don’t forget your towel and water bottle!

The purpose of this workout is to strengthen muscles and increase metabolism by improving cardiovascular fitness.  Using core strengthening exercises and stretches designed to maintain flexibility and prevent injury, we strive to create an experience that will leave you feeling great!
For more information check out the Sacramento Wellness blog HERE or call 916.712.7154.

Since we’re on the subject of health we wanted to remind you that there is a recent whooping-cough outbreak that the California Department of Public Health is saying may be the worst in 50 years. What does this mean to East Sac Moms? A typical case of pertussis in children and adults starts with a cough and runny nose for one-to-two weeks, followed by weeks to months of rapid coughing fits that sometimes end with a whooping sound. Children who have not been immunized or not immunized completely are at highest risk of contracting the disease. Always take precautions, teach your children to wash their hands regularly and thoroughly (lead by example) and stay current with each child’s immunizations.
For more information please contact your pediatrician or check out the CDPH’s website HERE.

We considered providing links to all of those venues and restaurants, but well, we are moms… we have kids to chase after… so click here for more information or call 916.442.8575.

Night at the Museum

July 6, 2009

Do you have a kid (or significant other) who is into cars? Take a Thursday evening to explore the California Automobile Museum (formerly the Towe Auto Museum.)  From 6-9PM the museum features refreshing Vic’s Ice Cream, fascinating classic cars and even live music.

This Thursday, July 9th, you’ll see The Pyronauts perform. On the schedule for Thursday, July 23rd, is the band Human Temperament. (Click on the band names to view their websites.)

If nothing else you can spend an evening learning about a part of recent American history instead of hanging out indoors in front of the television. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $4 for students and free for children under age 5.

The museum is located at 2200 Front St in downtown Sacramento. For more information click here or call 916.442.6802. If you attend a Night at the Museum, please let us know! We’d love to get a review from you.
