My favorite kind of scoop

July 11, 2011

Did you know there’s a new ice cream shop in East Sac?! Here’s the scoop (ahem, okay we’re done with that, I promise)…

What’s the Scoop opened recently in East Sacramento and is proudly serving Gunther’s ice cream. They have a ton of flavors and some super yummy concoctions (hello, 50-50, a champagne and berry ice with vanilla ice cream) and fabulous local service. Check out the Yelp reviews HERE (warning, out of 10, I’m not sure how many are authentic) and then go taste for yourself! Let us know what you think! East Sacramento Mom readers even get 20% off one item for mentioning you found them through East Sac Mom.

What’s the Scoop is located at 6350 Folsom Boulevard, next to Dos Coyotes.

We’ll see you there!

East Sac Support: Herself Moms

April 25, 2011

The best way to find a reliable plumber or electrician is to ask a friend for a referral, right? The same goes for any service provider, and we love getting referrals from other East Sacramento Moms for the services of another East Sac Mom. Such is the case with our very own Paige Schulte, who used the services of local lactation consultant, Julie Hurst. Julie teaches childbirth classes at Sutter Memorial and is also the owner of Herself Moms.

Herself Moms offers childbirth classes, lactation services, breast pump rentals and a variety of prenatal, postnatal, and mom and baby yoga classes. Herself Moms even has baby sign language and a “daddy and me” class! Click HERE for a full description for all of the classes and HERE for a schedule.

When she’s not teaching yoga, Julie can be found at Sutter Memorial teaching a variety of classes and helping new parents. Learn more about Julie and Herself Moms HERE.

Herself Moms yoga classes are held  at the Sierra 2 Center located at 2791 24th Street and for more information click HERE or call 916.690.2202.

East Sac Support: KidzArt

August 26, 2010

Imagination sparkles. Curiosity powers up. Ideas take form. Self-discovery is set in motion.

Owned and operated by an East Sacramento Mom, Jessica Tindel, KidzArt has grown from a studio in Natomas and expanded into all areas of Sacramento by way of art education classes.

KidzArt is a fun, unique and confidence-building drawing program for preschoolers through seniors. Our mission at KidzArt is to provide kids of all ages with the opportunity to have art in their lives, increase their skills and knowledge of various art media, learn to draw using a proven method, and most of all, to have fun!

KidzArt enhances a child’s experience of art.  Kids have a great need to express themselves in many ways — artistically, emotionally, physically and spiritually.  KidzArt impacts each and every area of expression.  The KidzArt classroom is a non-competitive environment enhanced by soft music that allows children to focus and enjoy what they are doing.  Parents see the difference in the quality of art their children bring home.  Kids get immediate results as their enthusiasm for art increases.

KidzArt impacts their lives by sparking their creative process in other areas as well.  KidzArt reaches the artistic individual as well as those who never thought they could draw or create works of art!

Not only does KidzArt offer studio classes (including Mommy & Me) and art education in the public schools, they can even help you host birthday parties with a focus on activities and imagination.

For a complete class schedule with prices, click HERE. You can also take advantage of one *FREE* preview class per child.

The KidzArt studio is located at 4480 Duckhorn Suite 100, at I-5 and Arena Boulevard, and for more information click HERE or call 916.574.9700.

East Sac Support: Cooking Capers

July 29, 2010

For many parents, the end of the school year also means a temporary break from the Bounce Town/Chuck E Cheese/Laser X birthday parties their children are invited to on a weekly (at least it seems) basis. As much as I want my child to enjoy time with his friends and participate in certain childhood rites of passage (including the “pizza” served by a giant mouse) I can’t say I look forward to those party days. Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand why we host those parties as parents– they are easy. We have enough going on in our over-scheduled lives to worry about planning the perfect party for our 4-year-old and entertaining twelve of their friends (of course you could always let Pear Tree Events do that for you). East Sacramento Mom, Karen Zamd got to thinking that in this progressive, food friendly city a cook-from-scratch cooking party business would be very welcome. Let us introduce you to Karen, and Cooking Capers!

Karen Zamd is a Berkeley graduate turned stay at home mom. With two inquisitive and rambunctious boys, Karen has worked hard to find interesting yet affordable activities that educate her kids while simultaneously allowing them to have fun. After having a wildly successful cooking-themed party for her eldest son, Karen received requests from other parents wanting the same kind of party for their kids. Cooking Capers was born!

Karen first began teaching children about food by conducting weekly cooking classes at her son’s school. She is now excited to offer children a fun and hands-on experience while they learn how ingredients come together to form the dinner and desserts they love.

Cooking Capers offers several fabulous party options that allow kids to mix, measure, paint and create their own meals and desserts! They provide all plates, utensils, food and drinks, and chef hats and aprons for each child to keep, and can even provide birthday cupcakes and party favors to add to the culinary adventure.

Cooking Capers will work with you to design a party that best suits your child, taking into consideration any dietary restrictions, and will help you create an education and fun birthday experience unlike any other. First you choose a main dish, such as pizza, kabobs or sushi. Next you select an activity, from cookie decorating to cupcakes to edible jewelry. Customize your party further by adding on a cotton candy machine, favors, pesto, or your own unique twist!

Cooking Capers doesn’t just cater to birthday parties though. If you know someone hosting a large party, a wedding, or another event where there will be children, let them know Cooking Capers is available to set up activity stations at the event to entertain the kids. A smaller scale than individual parties, but the same Cooking Capers quality. Guests will THANK you for thinking of their children.

Cooking Capers is available for parties all throughout the area and for more information check out their website by clicking HERE or give them a call at 916.538.4482.

Be sure to mention that you heard about Cooking Capers through East Sac Mom. Do you know of another East Sacramento Mom with their own small business, non-profit, or group you’d like to share?
