Hats off to the Holidays with the Sacramento Women’s Chorus

December 8, 2010

Does anyone still go Christmas caroling in their neighborhood? I’ve heard of groups of neighbors who make an event out of it, meet at one house, enjoy hot chocolate, light candles and roam their street belting out holiday cheer. I have yet to live on one of those streets though. If your block doesn’t participate either, the Sacramento Women’s Chorus has an alternative.

Join Sacramento Women’s Chorus for a *FREE* Seasonal Singalong, Monday, December 13 from 7PM to 8:15PM at 3901 Folsom Boulevard (First Christian Church – SWC is not affiliated with any church). They will be collecting warm hats, gloves and socks for the homeless women and children served by Maryhouse and Wellspring. Canned food and non-perishable donations will also be accepted.

Old Sacramento Theatre of Lights

December 2, 2010

In the works (in my head) is a fun-filled family night of ice skating at the Downtown Ice Rink, viewing Christmas lights in the Fabulous Forties while sipping hot chocolate, and observing Old Sacramento’s Theatre of Lights very soon. The debate is whether or not my almost-2-year-old will be up for all of that.

At the very least we can view Christmas lights from the warmth of the car (as eco-unfriendly as that may be) and snuggle up together as we enjoy the Theatre of Lights. If any of that sounds good to you, here is a little more about the Theatre of Lights:

Back for the second year, event-goers will experience the Old Sacramento Theatre of Lights. At 6:00p.m. a symphony of lights, sounds and visual effects will take the audience back to a time when the beloved poem The Night Before Christmas was first introduced in Sacramento in 1857. The Old Sacramento Theatre of Lights will run two 20-minute light shows throughout the holiday season Thursdays through Sundays at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Old Sacramento’s Theatre of Lights will celebrate “enhanced nights” with a visit from Santa Claus in The Christmas Shoppe following the performances, living history characters, and themed street vendors with traditional treats like spiced nuts and hot cocoa. Also new this year are the celebrity “Papas” who will appear in the Theatre of Lights performances. Dates and guests include:

4-Dec – Mellisa Paul, News10 Weather
11-Dec – Amy Lewis and Ed Crane, KFBK
17-Dec – Melissa Crowley & Guy Farris, Sacramento & Co.
18-Dec – Sydney Fong, Salvation Army

The Theatre of Lights takes place in Old Sacramento and for more information click HERE.
