What is the Banana Festival? It is a family friendly festival aimed at building community, promoting health and sharing culture. Kids 11 and under are *FREE* all weekend and adults are only $5.00.
The Banana Festival is being put on by volunteers from the National Academic Youth Corps and the Sojourner Truth Multicultural Art Museum, both here in Sacramento, and is happening at Consumnes River College August 13th through 15th. Yes, this is a little bit outside of our “East Sacramento” range, but how much fun does a Banana Festival sound? Especially when it’s so cheap! There will be music, dance, educational booths, a 5K fun run, all kinds of food and even a banana cook-off.
The Banana Festival runs the following days and times:
Friday 4-8:00PM
Saturday and Sunday 11AM-8:00PM
Consumnes River College is located at 8401 Center Parkway and for more information click HERE or call 916.424.3904.
We’ll see you there!
P.S. Don’t forget to enter to win this month’s GIVEAWAY: a $25 McCormick & Schmick’s giftcard!

I am Mariann Courey, owner of Opa! Opa!, east sac’s very own Greek/Mediterranean restaurant located at 57th and J Streets.
We would like very much to offer a $25 gift card for one of your giveaways.
Additionally, more than half of east sac has not yet patronized our establishment in the 5.5 years we have been open. We would like to change that with East Sac Mom’s help.
As you know, we have earned many titles for serving low cost, healthy food – we have over 15 vegetarian dishes as well and all of our food is prepared from scratch daily.
And yes, we have “meat and potatoes”, mac n cheese, hamburgers and fries and all those things that all of you cook on your barbeque at home like chicken, beef and lamb as well as salmon.
We also serve roasted and garlic mashed potatoes and we have many salads as well.
Its just a matter of stopping by and trying us out to see what you have been missing.
We invite you to come and enjoy why we have won Sacramento News n Review’s the Best of Sac 4 years running; KCRA’s A List 3 years running and best Greek/Mediterranean in Sacramento Magazine’s best of Sacramento also 3 years running.
We hope that you also support the Greek food festival this year – look for our coupon in their program good through the end of September.

Thank you so much for reading.
